Book Locations by Call Number

Want to explore books on a topic, even if you don’t have a specific title? Call numbers help you do that.

Call number ranges by floor

  • Call numbers A–HD are on the 2nd floor.
  • Call numbers M–N are on the 3rd floor.
  • Books with “XX” before the call number are oversized books shelved on the 3rd floor following the N’s.
  • Call numbers HE–L and P–Z are on the 4th floor.

Exceptions: When searching Discovery @ CSU, you may find books with prefixes above the call number such as REF or JUV. These materials are shelved in special locations, and many are non-circulating for in-library use only.

At the Michael Schwartz Library, most of the print books you can borrow are on floors 2–4, organized by the Library of Congress system. Books on the same subject are shelved together, so once you find one, you can easily discover more nearby. Use the floor plan links above for room-by-room and service-area information.
