Printing

Print jobs sent from the 1st floor Library computers and the 2nd floor look-up terminals are directed to the print station in the Library Learning Commons Lab on the west end of the 1st floor. The 2nd floor Math Emporium has a separate networked printer.

Printing for CSU students is available at no charge from all Library computer stations. At the start of every semester, CSU allocates $80 of free printing to each student’s account. When a page is printed, 4 cents is automatically deducted from that account. For color printing, 50 cents is subtracted. If the entire allocation is used up before the semester ends, more pages can be purchased.

Printing instructions for CSU students, faculty & staff

  1. If you are a current CSU student, faculty, or staff member, you will be automatically connected to the University’s PaperCut printing system when you log in to any of the Library’s non-Community Borrower computers. A window will open showing the remaining balance of your print allocation for the current semester.
  2. Before you print a document, use the program’s “Print Preview” function to confirm how many pages you will be printing and to see how the printed pages will look. If you are satisfied with the preview, select “Print.” If the preview does not look right, ask for assistance at the nearest service point.
  3. In the Print dialog box, select the printer you want to print to. To choose black and white or color, click the printer’s “Preferences” button or “Printer Properties.” “Xerox Black and White” should be “On” by default for black-and-white output at 4 cents per page. For color printouts, change it to “Off (Use Document Color)” for 50 cents per page.
  4. Most University public printers now print two-sided by default. To print single-sided pages, click “Properties” next to the printer name, then under “2-Sided Printing” select “1-Sided Printing.”
  5. Click “OK” in the main Print dialog box when you are ready to send your document. If you need help finding a printer, ask at the nearest service point.

Scanning

KIC self-serve scanners provide a free, easy way to scan high-resolution images of books, documents, photos, and more.

Scanner locations

  • First floor: To the right of the Library and Research Help Desk as you enter the Library, at the end of the cluster of quick look-up PCs.
  • First floor west: In the Library Learning Commons Lab near the LCLC lab.
  • Third floor: Just outside RT 301.

Scanner features

  • Scan directly to an email address, USB drive, or Google Drive account, bypassing the need to use a flatbed scanner or carry around paper copies.
  • Scan content face-up, making it easier to copy books and other materials and reducing strain on the book spine.
  • The KIC is free to use. You can print scanned content from any networked campus computer using your PaperCut print balance.

Photocopying

The library has three photocopy machines:

  • First floor: To the right of the Library and Research Help Desk as you enter the Library, at the end of the cluster of quick look-up PCs.
  • Third floor: Outside of Archives.
  • Fourth floor: East end, near the outdoor atrium.

Use of the photocopiers requires a CSU ID number and password to log in. The current cost for photocopying is 5¢ per copy, charged to the user’s PaperCut print balance.

Ask for assistance at the 1st floor Tech Help Desk in the Learning Commons Lab if you need help with the copiers or are a non-CSU visitor.

For laptop and mobile users

At this time, CSU does not have a working printing solution for users of personal laptops and other mobile devices. As a workaround, save your document to email, a thumb drive, or cloud storage such as Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive, open it on any Library public workstation, and print it using the lab instructions above.

Used up your printing allocation?

Students can purchase additional non-refundable printing in increments of $4.00 online at SHOPNET. Detailed instructions are available from IS&T.

Take the receipt to the Mobile Campus Laptop Loan counter in room 128A of the Student Center to have your print purchase added to your balance.
